How to Get a Perfect Score in SAT Math

Sep 13, 2023 · 3 min read

Introduction

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a crucial standardised test that plays a significant role in college admissions in the United States. Among its sections, SAT Math is often the one students feel most confident about improving — because with the right strategy, it is very achievable to hit a perfect 800.

1. Know the Format Inside Out

The Digital SAT Math section consists of two modules — each with 22 questions and a 35-minute time limit. You'll face a mix of multiple-choice and student-produced response questions. Understanding the structure means you can allocate time wisely and avoid surprises on test day.

2. Focus on the Four Key Areas

  • Algebra — linear equations, systems, inequalities
  • Advanced Math — quadratics, polynomials, functions
  • Problem-Solving & Data Analysis — ratios, percentages, statistics
  • Geometry & Trigonometry — area, volume, basic trig

3. Build a Personalised Study Plan

A diagnostic test reveals exactly where you lose points. Take one official practice test, analyse every mistake, and categorise errors by topic. Then build a weekly plan that prioritises your weakest areas while maintaining strength in areas you already know.

4. Master Time Management

Spend roughly 90 seconds per question on average. If you're stuck, mark and move on. Coming back with fresh eyes often unlocks the solution — and you won't waste time on one question at the expense of five others.

5. Work With an Expert

Solo studying has limits. A qualified tutor can spot patterns in your mistakes that you can't see yourself, teach elegant shortcuts, and hold you accountable to a realistic timeline. At Matho'Mate, our personalised 1-on-1 approach has helped students go from stuck to scoring 800 on SAT Math.
